ABM Electrical has been featured Electrical Distributors Association (EDA)! If you weren’t aware, we work with many apprentices to expand our talent pool. We believe that an apprenticeship is one of the best routes to take for gaining qualifications in the sector. It’s also a great path for employers who are looking to expand their team!
Why Apprenticeships at ABM Electrical are Successful
ABM’s very own managing director, Mark Ashworth, believes that more employers should consider apprenticeship programmes. This is his advice to those who may consider this route:
“In wholesaling there’s never enough time and 101 excuses not to do something. But I can honestly say that taking on an apprentice through the EDA has been a much easier process than I had anticipated. My advice to other business owners is, give it a go, tap into the expertise that comes with your EDA membership and reap benefits for your business.”
Experience is Growth
Our first apprentice, Joel Pastore, has gained much in experience since joining us in early 2018.
Mark says, “I like the idea of being able to develop the ABM team our way and apprentices help us do that because it’s a combination of a qualification and on the job training alongside our established ABM team.
“The EDA service was easy: Louise at EDA Apprenticeships Plus was very helpful. They ran the recruitment campaign for us and we interviewed some good candidates, but Joel stood out. He was both well prepared and well presented. He didn’t need to be an expert in our business, he needed to show willing and that’s why he got the job.”
About Joel
Joel is in the middle of his 12-month apprenticeship for Warehousing and Storage Level 2. This is one of the hundreds of available apprenticeships available across the UK. According to Joel, there is no part of his job that he could pick out as a favourite. “I enjoy all of it,” he says.
Joel came across us on the National Apprenticeship Service website. This website is great for anyone who is considering an apprenticeship as the path for their career. All apprenticeship vacancies across England can be published here.
Before joining the ABM team, Joel was working for a shipping container business.
“I was looking for a career move, and this opportunity caught my eye. It was local to me and something different,” Joel explains. He now has a team of mentors who are there to support him as he learns and gains experience. We see a bright future for Joel, proving that choosing apprentices is a benefit for both the employee and the employer.
